OpenInsider alternatives, free and paid

OpenInsider is free and thorough, but it won't tell you when an insider buys. Here are the tools people use instead, or alongside it, and what each does differently.

The InsiderBeacon team ยท October 22, 2026

A disclosure first. We make InsiderBeacon, one of the tools below. We have tried to describe every tool fairly, including where the others do more than we do, and to show each price as its maker lists it. Prices are as the vendors listed them in October 2026; check their pages before you buy.

What OpenInsider does well

OpenInsider has been the free way to search Form 4 filings for over a decade. Its ready-made screens (cluster buys, CEO and CFO purchases, the latest buys over $25,000) are quick, the history goes back years, and it costs nothing. If you like to sit down and screen filings yourself, it's hard to beat on price.

Why people look for an alternative

  • No alerts. There are no watchlists, email notifications or per-ticker feeds, so you only see a buy when you next check, which can be hours or days after the filing.
  • No interpretation. Every open-market buy looks the same in the table. Whether it was the CEO's first buy in years or a director's routine one is left to you, and so is checking what earlier buys did afterwards.
  • Not built for a phone. The dense tables are made for a desktop screen.

The right one depends on what you're missing

If you want alerts: InsiderBeacon

Follow any insider or ticker and get a phone notification, a Telegram message or an email within about a minute of the SEC accepting their next Form 4. Every buy is scored out of 100 by a published formula, cluster buys get their own alert, and the app keeps a record of what each buy did after 1 day, 1 week and 1 month. Free during early access (every Pro feature, no card); then a Free plan with filings 24 hours behind, and Pro at $29 a month ($14 for early members). See every buy by company on the insider buying by stock pages.

If you want a cleaner free database: SecForm4

A page per company and per insider, easier to read than EDGAR, and free. No alerts.

If you want a morning email: CEO Watcher

One newsletter a day at 6am New York time with the notable buys and some commentary; Premium is $20 a month.

If you also follow Congress: Capitol Trades or Quiver Quantitative

Capitol Trades is a free, clean Congress lookup. Quiver Quantitative adds insiders, government contracts and backtests, free or $25 a month for Premium.

If you trade options: Unusual Whales or InsiderFinance

Both are options-flow platforms with an insider feed added: $50 to $120 a month for Unusual Whales, $75 a month for InsiderFinance. Worth it if you use the flow data; a lot to pay if you only want insider buys.

If you invest outside the US: InsiderScreener

Insider trades from 17 markets, from $17 a month.

If you already use a screener: Finviz Elite or TipRanks

Both show insider trades next to everything else they do. Neither alerts on insider buys specifically.

Moving from OpenInsider to alerts

  1. Write down the tickers and people you keep looking up on OpenInsider.
  2. In InsiderBeacon, follow them: tap Follow on an insider, or add tickers in a list like AAPL, MSFT, NVDA.
  3. Set a minimum size or score so you only hear about the buys you'd have stopped to read, and quiet hours in your own time zone.
  4. Keep OpenInsider for screening. The two work well together: one to search, one to tell you.

Questions

Is OpenInsider still free?

Yes. As of October 2026 OpenInsider is free and supported by ads, with no paid plan.

Where does OpenInsider get its data?

From the same place as every tool on this page: Form 4 filings on the SEC's EDGAR system, which are public. What differs between tools is how quickly they read the filings, what they filter out, and whether they tell you or wait for you to look.

Can I get alerts for OpenInsider's cluster buys?

OpenInsider itself has no alerts. InsiderBeacon sends a cluster-buy alert when three or more insiders buy the same stock within ten days, and lets you follow any insider or ticker so you hear about their next filing within about a minute.
